  2. There are several filesystem images (= ramdisk images) in this
  3. directory. They differ in intention and with which kernel versions
  4. they may be used:

  6.  - filesys-1.2.gz
  7.  
  8.    This ramdisk uses pl0..3 ext2 fs format and was meant to change
  9.    existing 0.9 ext2 filesystems for the new ext2 structure. It may
  10.    also be used to freshly install Linux/68k, but is not very
  11.    convenient for this task. Use it only with an appropriate kernel,
  12.    i.e. 1.2.x below 1..2.13pl3 (incl.)

  14.  - filesys-for-pl4.gz
  15.  
  16.    This ramdisk is intended *only* for changing ext2 filesystems from
  17.    older formats (0.9, 1.2.13pl3) to the one used in 1.2.13pl4 and
  18.    later. For this, it contains new versions of all ext2 utilities in
  19.    both, a.out and ELF formats. But for freshly installing Linux/68k,
  20.    it lacks some important binaries (tar etc.) Since the image itself
  21.    is in pl4 ext2 format, it can't be used with older kernels.

  23.  - filesys-pl4-newer.{ext2,minix}.gz
  24.  
  25.    These two ramdisk images are for newly installing Linux, not for
  26.    upgrading. The ext2 version also uses 1.2.13pl4 format, so it can't
  27.    be used with kernels older than that. The minix version does not
  28.    depend on the kernel version. Both contain all necessary
  29.    binaries for setting up a Linux system the first time (making
  30.    filesystems, untarring some basic system). See also the file
